This is the ultimate question: Which is better at cutting foodstuffs, your ordinary pair of kitchen scissors or the handy pizza cutter?
First, a bit of background. I had pizza for tea one evening last week, and with it fresh from the oven was cutting it into slices with a pair of scissors as I usually do. Rob, my housemate thought this was a stupid thing to do and asked why the hell I hadn’t used the pizza cutter like any sane person would? I answered that clearly scissors did a better job, and much debate ensued.
Consultation with our other housmate Simon tipped the balance in favour of the scissors and thus was born the question: which is the more essential food preparation utensil? The idea being that we test the ability of each to cut various foodstuffs and award a point to the winner in each case, based on the following criteria:
- Ease of Cut-ability
- Aesthetics of Final Result
- Usability of Result
- Food Retention
- Blood Loss
The leaderboard shall be displayed below, with more detailed comments and analysis underlying the results on the following pages (you can find them in the sidebar, or by clicking on the food types in the table below). More importantly, we need your help! Post a comment here and let us know which foodstuff we should test next in our quest to find The King of Kitchen Implements! [Testing has now been concluded and unfortunately we will not be accepting any more suggestions. If you have a burning desire to know which is the better tool to cut such-and-such but we didn't test it, have a go yourself, and let us know what happened by commenting here!]
